Welcome to HMC’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office which falls under the administration of our Medical Education Department. HMC is the largest sponsoring institution in Qatar and provides a broad range of postgraduate residency training and clinical fellowship programs to trainee doctors.
Our GME Office is responsible for overseeing all residency and fellowship training programs and providing the necessary support for sponsored postgraduate training programs at HMC. Our aim is to create a clinical learning environment that supports the teaching and training of medical students, residents and fellows at HMC.
We facilitate the professional, ethical and the personal development of faculty physicians, residents and fellows through their lifelong learning journey. Our goal is to produce independent and competent physicians to provide quality healthcare to the community and contribute to the development of the healthcare system in Qatar.
We are also responsible for international academic accreditation for our residency and fellowship training programs and were the second country in the world after Singapore to achieve the academic institutional accreditation by the ACGME International LLC in November 2012. Seven residency training programs successfully achieved ACGME International LLC’s international program accreditation in July 2013 and we are also expecting more of our 22 residency programs to be accredited soon. HMC is also the main sponsor of around 52 clinical fellowship training programs in Qatar.
Our office continues to monitor compliance with ACGME International LLC accreditation standards to ensure that our programs are consistently aligned with accreditation requirements.
HMC is the primary clinical teaching site for most of the residency and fellowship training programs in Qatar where residents and fellows can complete their clinical rotations and gain clinical experience in the main training hospitals:
- Hamad General Hospital
- Women’s Hospital
- Rumillah Hospital
- Heart Hospital
- National Cancer Care Center and Research
- Al Khor Hospital
- Al Wakra Hospital
In addition to these hospitals, HMC offers residents and fellows a unique clinical experience by supporting training in healthcare organizations and specialized private hospitals across Qatar. HMC has several master affiliation agreements with organizations such as the Primary Health Care Corporation, Aspetar Orthopedic and Sport Hospital, the Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs, and Al Owain Center. We are also expecting to engage with more healthcare institutions in the country to continue to meet the growing educational needs of our residency and fellowship training programs.
