Want to know more? Here are some frequently asked questions to help explain the move?

Q. Why is the Emergency Department at Women’s Hospital moving?
A. In December 2017 we opened our new Women’s Wellness and Research Center and we are currently transferring most of the services from Women’s Hospital to this advanced new facility. This new hospital significantly expands our capacity and enables us to deliver even more high-quality care services in world-class healthcare facilities.

Q. What’s the difference between the Emergency Department at Women’s Wellness and Research Center and the main one at Hamad General Hospital?
A. The new Emergency Department at the Women’s Wellness and Research Center provides care for women who are experiencing an obstetrical or gynecological emergency. This includes women suffering from severe vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, vulval abscesses, and fibroids. For all other medical emergencies, women should visit the main Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital (or at Al Wakra, Cuban or Al Khor Hospitals)

Q. What should women do if they experience an obstetrical or gynecological emergency this week, before Friday 11 May 2018?
A. The Emergency Department at WWRC will not open until 6am on Friday, 11 May 2018; therefore, pregnant women who experience signs of labor, such as regular contractions or their water breaking, or any obstetrical or gynecological emergency before this date should call 999 or proceed to the Women’s Hospital Emergency Department.

Q: What other services will be relocating from WH to WWRC on Friday 11 May 2018?
A. On Friday 11 May 2018, all Women’s Hospital’s inpatient services and NICU, will permanently move to the new Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC)

Q: Will there be any service remaining at Women’s hospital after 11 May 2018?
A. From 11 May 2018, Women’s services will be largely closed except for IVF and Infertility.
