Academic Health

HMC’s ethos is based on three key pillars: Health, Education and Research. These signify the our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare, the training and education of healthcare professionals and research that develops evidence-based medicine.

Academic Health System in Qatar
The Academic Health System (AHS) was launched in Qatar in 2011 and is an innovative partnership working towards transforming healthcare in the country. This is the first partnership of its kind in the MENA region and the world’s first nation-wide Academic Health System. With eight partner organizations all based in Qatar, HMC is proud to be part of the AHS. An AHS is based on three interconnected pillars; clinical care, research and education. Over the next five years, the AHS will improve standards of patient care, help train the next generation of clinical and scientific leaders in Qatar and support world-class research.

An International Model
The AHS model is tried and tested. It has been adopted by some of the most prestigious health systems across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia. Learning from international experience, the International Advisory Board for Qatar’s AHS comprises high-profile, international experts in health, education and research.

HMC Nurses and the transformation into an Academic Health System
The transformation into an AHS represents a major milestone in HMC. A key element of the initiative will be to widen community engagement through the development of a deeper social conscience to present both economic and health benefits to the community. As members of the multi-disciplinary teams, our nurses at HMC will play a vital role in the success of the AHS initiative.
